        Information literacy is an indispensable skill for students and researchers to complete their studies, carry out scientific research, expand their horizons, and carry out lifelong learning. It is an important guarantee for cultivating innovation consciousness, improving innovation and scientific research capabilities, and also connecting library resources with all teachers. Tongji University Library has always attached great importance to the information literacy education of teachers and students, and the information literacy education has always been one of the important service contents of the library for teachers and students. In 2018, in order to strengthen information literacy education, the library separated some senior teachers engaged in information literacy education from the Information Consulting Department, and established the Information Literacy Education and Research Department of Tongji University to carry out information literacy education for the whole school.
        The related work was progressed for a long history although the department is young. In 1984, The Ministry of Education called on universities offered Information retrieval curriculum. From then on, Tongji university library have developed a team of experienced and professional teachers as the first batch answered to the call. With the development of the Internet, Information retrieval course was not merely to teach searching literature but also gradually developed into teaching the comprehensive utilization of electronic and Internet resources. The course had transformed from offline(face-to-face, traditional learning) into blended learning. The newly mode systematically combined teaching, lecture, visit, exercitation and so on. The department would continue information literacy education in many different forms and contents based on the formerly work, and develop the library into a base for the cultivation of information literacy of all teachers and students in school.
        The Information Literacy Education and Research Department is a professional team engaged in information literacy education and related academic research, developing the Information literacy in research and innovation. For the whole process of college students' study and career, such as freshman, innovative experiment plan, graduation design, dissertation, etc., provide full-type, full-network scientific and technological literature resources, online and offline, courses, lectures, project simulations, exercitations and other coordinated and systematic forms. Welcome you come to consult and collaborate with us.
        The Information Literacy Education and Research Department team consists of 7 members, including 4 associate research librarians, 2 librarians, and 1 assistant librarian, and guided by deputy secretary of the library. The team average teaching age is over 15 years, with rich teaching experience, determination and Innovation, well received by students.
        The main work of our department includes: information literacy-related credit courses for the whole school and some credit courses for international students, give regular lectures, special lectures and appointment lectures for the whole school teachers and students, entrance education for freshmen, and embedded in cooperation with college teachers course.

Information literacy Courses Introduction

Undergraduate courses:

Scientific Literature Retrieval and Utilization: Curriculum code: 340012, 1.5 credits, 34 School hours. Elective for all undergraduates, General course. This course combines lecture and exercise class by multimedia. You will get score by final open book exam and assignment. Skills you will acquire: proficient in a lot of search information skills; konw how to choose appropriate search engine, databases and reference books; complete the literature research independently, know the core journal evaluation tools and contribution guidelines, the format of the dissertation, develop research and innovation ability.

Medical Literature Retrieval(Language: Chinese): Curriculum code: 340010, 2 credits, 34 School hours. Compulsory course for the school of medical undergraduates. This course is a applicational and practical, which comprehensively teaching the retrieval and utilization of medical literature information. Through the teaching of a series of information sources such as databases and network resources, students are trained to find and obtain information independently, and comprehensively improve medical information literacy.

Medical Literature retrieval(Language: English): Curriculum code: 340013, 34 School hours, Compulsory course for the school of medical International students. This course is an applied and practical course, which comprehensively explains the retrieval and utilization of medical literature information. Through the teaching of a series of databases, network resources and other information sources, we can cultivate students’ ability to search and obtain information independently, and comprehensively improve their medical information literacy. Skills you will acquire: Identify your information need; Locate valid, internet information sources; Compose appropriate search strategies; Evaluate information for authority, accuracy, balance, and currency; Effectively and ethically use diverse information sources; Critical Thinking.

Graduate courses:
Scientific Literature Retrieval and Utilization: Curriculum code: 2900008, 1 credit, Elective course for full-time postgraduates. Through the introduction of databases and research engine related to academic research, graduate students are trained to independently complete the literature research of research project, and to be able to search in different databases, make use retrieval and analysis tools, and find suitable reference books to complete the academic career at the master level.

Medical Literature retrieval: Curriculum code: 2110010, 1 credit, Elective course for school of medical full-time postgraduates. This course is a applicational and practical, which comprehensively teach the retrieval and utilization of medical literature information. Through the teaching of a series of information sources such as databases and network resources, students are trained to find and obtain information independently, and comprehensively improve medical information literacy.
