  Time:2021-05-31

The lecture "Bringing You on the Road to German Literature" was successfully held in the lecture hall of the German Library on the afternoon of April 13, 2021. The lecture invited Prof. Huang Keqin, Professor of Language and Literature of Tongji University, and Mrs. Sun Liyan, Associate Editor of the German and European Culture Publishing Center of Tongji University Press, as guest speakers, focusing on the characteristics and original intention of publication of the "Daily Reading Plan of German Classics" series of books and the reading and appreciation method of German original books. The lecture attracted many teachers and students who love German literature to participate. Students from the German club also took an active part in this lecture.

At the beginning of the lecture, Mrs. Sun introduced the original intention of the publication of the "Daily Reading Plan of German Classics": this series of books proceeds from the simpler to the deeper, with detailed explanations, making the daunting German original reading easier and more enjoyable so that readers can appreciate the unique beauty of German literature.

After that, Mrs. Huang introduced the main plots and appreciation methods of the three books "Letter from an Unknown Woman", "Immensee" and "The Sorrows of Young Werther". She conducted a more in-depth analysis of the main plots of "Letter from an Unknown Woman" and pointed out: Zweig is good at revealing the secret inner world of women and highlighting the characters' personalities and life experiences through delicate psychological description. Next, Mrs. Huang explained "Immensee" from the perspective of character relationships and language. Stom uses poetic realism to symbolize the plot development and the fate of the characters with beautiful natural objects. He describes the sad love story and expresses the ordinary life as poetic and beautiful, which has a high artistic aesthetic value. Finally, the teacher introduced the creation background of "The Sorrows of Young Werther", the main plots and its influence on the European literary world, and visualized Werther's life course and psychological development in the form of charts, emphasizing the sharp contradiction and the constant struggle between ideal and reality. Throughout the process, three students were invited to read aloud fragments of the original in German and to share their reading feelings.

At the end of the lecture, Mrs. Huang emphasized the multi-dimensionality of literary appreciation. We can read from the perspective of character relationships and plot development, as well as from the perspective of structure or language. The important thing is to grasp the integrity and feel the beauty of German. During the session of questioning, the students enthusiastically spoke with thoughts. For example: How to understand the classics in light of the background of the times? Is "The Sorrows of Young Werther" a tragedy? The atmosphere of the lecture was relaxed and warm. The students who like to learn German not only mastered the knowledge of German reading, but also took a German literature class. The lecture ended with applause.
