The theme lecture "The Origin Relations between the Early History of Tongji University and Germany" was successfully held |

Sep.29th, 2020, "The Origin Relations between the Early History of Tongji University and Germany", the first lecture of the series of "The Centennial Stories of Tongji and Germany", was successfully held in the lecture hall on the second floor of the German Library of Tongji University. And it was simultaneously broadcast live online, attracting nearly 100 online and offline teachers and students to participate. The speaker of this lecture was Hu Chunchun, deputy director of the German Research Center and the Sino-German Humanities Exchange Research Center of Tongji University. The content of the lecture was prepared by Mr. Hu and Li Lezeng, an emeritus professor of the Institute of German Studies of Tongji University. The content of the lecture was detailed, accurate and rich in historical materials. Mr. Hu recommended two books to audience during the lecture. One is "Tongji University in German China Policy" written by Professor Li. The other is "Tongji-Universität in Shanghai Dokumente zur Gründungsgeschichte" (German, translated as “History of the founding of Tongji University”) compiled by Roswitha Reinbothe. At the beginning of the lecture, Mr. Hu started from the world pattern in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries and discussed the Sino-German relations in Qingdao and Shanghai. Combining modern China's study of Western learning and some factors such as "world order" and "foreign cultural policy" in Germany at that time, he elaborated the historical background that contributed to the birth of the German Medical School which had been the predecessor of Tongji University. Mr. Hu then explained the early history of Tongji University and the relocation of the school buildings. He also introduced what role Dr. Erich Paulun, Tongji University's first president, played in the history of Tongji University and extended to the life stories of many German university's presidents, deans and department heads who grew up in Tongji. At last, in the interactive session, the audience asked questions actively and Mr.Hu discussed and exchanged ideas with whom on some problems such as "Tongji-German Exchange Project" "Foreign Cultural Policy" and so on.
