According to the latest data released by the Clarivate Analytics ESI (Essential Science Indicators) database on May 9, 2019 (The statistical time range is from January 1, 2009 to March 28, 2019), Tongji University has 11 disciplines entered top 1% on the ESI global list. They are Engineering, Clinical Medicine, Materials Science, Chemistry, Environment/Ecology, Molecular Biology & Genetics, Biology & Biochemistry, Geosciences, Computer Science, Pharmacology & Toxicology, and General of Social Sciences. The detailed information of each discipline is shown in the table below.

Among the 11 disciplines of our school that have not entered ESI top 1%, the threshold value closeness of disciplines of mathematics, physics, immunology, and neuroscience & behavior are over 80%.. The threshold value closeness of potential disciplines of our school entering the ESI top 1% institutions in 2013-2019 is shown in the following figure.

ESI is an analytical database built on the basis of the collection and analysis of academic papers and references selected by SCIE/SSCI by Clarivate Analytics (formerly Thomson Reuters), which is currently recognized by the academic community as an analytical evaluation tool that measures scientific research performance and tracks scientific development trends. ESI conducts rolling statistics and sorts the total cited frequency of countries and regions, research institutions, papers, and individuals around the world in 22 subject areas, and the results are published every two months. In the same year, the number of cited frequency published in the same ESI discipline is ranked from high to low, and the top 1% of papers are highly cited papers.
