According to the latest data released by the Clarivate Analytics ESI (Essential Science Indicators) database on May 9, 2019 (The statistical time range is from January 1, 2009 to March 28, 2019), there are 393 highly cited papers in our school. The top 5 highly cited papers publishing colleges include the College of Environmental Science and Engineering, Tongji University School of Medicine, School of Chemical Science and Engineering, College of Civil Engineering, School of Materials Science and Engineering, as shown in Figure 1 (if the same paper is co-authored by different colleges, then the amount of articles of each college will be counted once).

According to the latest data released by the Incites database on April 30, 2019, from January 1, 2009 to April 30, 2019, there were 1215 papers in our school ranking the top 3% papers in ESI. The top 5 colleges published top 3% papers are College of Environmental Science and Engineering, Tongji University School of Medicine, School of Chemical Science and Engineering, Tenth Peoples Hospital of Tongji University, School of Materials Science and Engineering, as shown in Figure 2 (If different colleges collaborate to publish the same paper, each college will be counted once.)

Among the top 10 ESI Highly Cited Papers publishing colleges, the School of Chemical Science and Engineering ranks first (4.44 Authors/paper) in the average number of authors per paper, followed by the School of Materials Science and Engineering (3.15 Authors/paper), College of Environmental Science and Engineering (3.07 Authors/paper) and Tenth Peoples Hospital of Tongji University (2.80 Authors/paper), as shown in Figure 3.(We count the authors according to different colleges. If the same author has multiple colleges at the same time, each college’s number of authors is counted once, and if the same author is named by a different department under the same college, the number of authors of the college is counted only once.)

ESI is an analytical database built on the basis of the collection and analysis of academic papers and references selected by SCIE/SSCI by Clarivate Analytics (formerly Thomson Reuters), which is currently recognized by the academic community as an analytical evaluation tool that measures scientific research performance and tracks scientific development trends. ESI conducts rolling statistics and sorts the total cited frequency of countries and regions, research institutions, papers, and individuals around the world in 22 subject areas, and the results are published every two months. In the same year, the number of cited frequency published in the same ESI discipline is ranked from high to low, and the top 1% of papers are highly cited papers. The top 3% papers in ESI refers to the top 3% of papers published in the same ESI discipline in the same year.
