The activity of experiencing Chinese traditional tie-dyeing for international students was successfully held in German Library.

Tongji German Library, together with CDH, held an event to let international students experience tie-dyeing, the Chinese traditional technique“Za-ran”on Sep 19th 2019, in the lobby of the German Library.

Firstly, the assistants of German Library introduced the history of“Za-ran”to the students, then showed them the tools and steps in making different“Za-ran” patterns. During the activity, German students modulated dyes, stitched up with a suture, dipped and dried the cloth by themselves. Meanwhile, the traditional oriental technique collided and integrated with the modern western culture. Eventually the unique tie-dyed handkerchiefs were born from their hands.

The activity has not only given the students a chance to feel the charm of traditional Chinese “Za-ran” dye technique, but also has inspired many of them to get to know Chinese traditional culture intimately.
